OUR DOGS AT HOME
Hello and welcome to Southern Storm Kennels. At Southern Storm Kennels our mission is to breed world class German Shepherds. Not only do we breed for a beautiful look and confirmation, we breed for a wonderful temperament as well. We are knowledgeable about the "breed standards" and breed for the very best characteristics such as size, proportion, coat and color. We want our dogs to be the very best that the breed has to offer. We breed German Shepherds and German Shepherds ONLY!
We spare no expense when it comes to our dogs. We have a very strong relationship with our veterinarian. Our veterinarian knows each and every one of our dogs and sees them on a regular basis. All vaccinations and wellness exams are done by our vet. All of our breeding stock is certified by the OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals) or the German equivalent of the OFA for hips and elbows. We also feed our dogs a very high quality premium dog food from the time they are whelped and through adulthood.
We also go to great lengths to socialize our dogs. We raise our puppies as if they were going to live in our homes forever. It is not uncommon for relatives and friends to take our pups for a weekend sleep-over. ALL of our dogs here at Southern Storm Kennels are exercised daily together. This teaches them social skills when around other dogs and makes for an easier transition if they are going to new homes that already have other animals. All our dogs are raised inside and outside of the home. We try to teach them that any living situation is okay.
Here at Southern Storm Kennels, we keep our kennels and exercise areas immaculate. They are cleaned and maintained several times a day. Fresh water is available at all times along with plenty of shelter. As I like to say, "The back yard is THEIR yard". We use all natural products on our dogs to keep the critters away. We rotate our adult dogs and puppies from the kennels to the exercise yard on an hourly basis. This gives our dogs and puppies plenty of time to be just that, DOGS! Our dogs and pups are groomed on a weekly basis. A good brushing, a good ear cleaning, and nails clipped are routine. Each dog is given individual attention daily. Hugs, kisses, and petting are the norm here at Southern Storm Kennels. Each dog is made to feel as if they are the ONLY dog!
The Southern Storm family thanks you for taking an interest in our dogs. It is our greatest pleasure to develop a long and lasting friendship with the wonderful people who purchase our dogs. There is nothing more pleasurable then being updated on the wonderful progress our dogs are making in their new environments! Sharing a bond of love for the German shepherd is why we do what we do!

Quincy is Wayhn and Elaine male
Payton is Wayhn and Quinny female
Hi Susie,
It's Mindy and Jan. We wanted to let you know how our first few days with Payton and Quincy went. Saturday, when we left your house with the puppies, I sat in the back with them and Jan drove. We were stopped at a red light next to a Sheriff's car. All of a sudden we heard this barking (like a watch dog). It was Payton. We were laughing so hard at her. Then we stopped at Publix and Jan went inside and I stayed in the car with them. This man walked by the back, too close for Payton's liking, and she gave a warning growl and barked again. She is going to be quite the watchdog. Quincy is definitely my dog. He just stayed in my lap the whole time.
When we got home, Jan carried Payton in and I carried Quincy. We introduced them to our other two dogs, Ruger and Sammi (both German Shepard rescues). Everyone was very good during the introductions. Then we took everyone outside to get acquainted. After that, Jan decided they needed a kiddy pool because Payton liked playing in the water bucket at your house. He bought one and Payton was in her glory. She hopped in and started splashing, diving and sitting in the water. It was hysterical. She was very good about getting dried off before she went back in the house.
We built a big pen in our living room for them. It is covered with rubber mats and filled with toys, blankets and towels. They also each have a crate. At about 1:15 in the morning, we heard some whining. We got up and let them out. They both did their business, went back in the house and back to sleep. They are so smart!

Sunday, they got up early (Ruger and Jan have a routine) and went right outside to the bathroom. They came back in and everyone ate breakfast then took a nap. We took the puppies to our friends. We want to make sure they get used to riding in the car and are friendly with people so we can take them places with us. It was fun. They met some other dogs, under very close watch from us, and some horses. Payton investigated everything and Quincy sat in my lap. I said he was my dog. We got home; they went right outside to the bathroom then in for naps.
We decided to switch our older dogs to the raw. So, we spent about an hour and a half preparing the food and grinding it. We figure that once we get the routine figured out it shouldn't take more than an hour to prepare their meals for several days at a time. Ruger and Sammi loved it. Ruger, who we had to buy a bumper bowl for because he ate so fast, ate like a human being. He didn't gulp his food at all. Sammi sits by the counter and waits for her food now. She used to eat an hour after Jan fed Ruger in the mornings.
Jan took Monday off from work so we would have the long weekend to get the puppies acclimated and used to each other. Well, as you can tell, that didn't take three hours, which we are very happy about. But it was fun for all of us to have the extra day together. Our day was what should be pretty typical. Breakfast in the morning followed by their naps. Then playing in the pool and running around outside. Another nap to follow and then some couch potato time. Dinner and more play before bedtime.
Everyone was outside Monday night. I stayed in to do some things in the house. I heard this serious barking. At first I thought maybe two of the dogs got into a fight. I ran outside to find Ruger and Payton patrolling the property barking at someone on the outside of our fence. We were very proud of her and I was relieved that they didn't get into a fight.
We wanted to let you know that we are very happy that we decided to take two pups even though our intentions were to take only one. They are definitely better together and we believe that it is making the transition in our house easier.
Well, Jan is at work and I promised Payton some pool time. Thank you again for everything. We will see you soon.
Best regards,
Mindy and Jan
By the way, thank you for being there to answer our questions.
I have attached some pictures for you. Enjoy!

Dear Susie,
It has been almost two months now since I purchased Mowgli from your kennel. Things are going great and I couldn't be happier with the young pup. He has great personality and is absolutely a beautiful dog. Everyone that sees him is amazed at how handsome he is. From the first time I visited your kennel I could tell how committed you were to your dogs. Even with all those dogs and a full litter of puppies the place was amazingly clean and you wouldn't even have known that there were animals there. That was something that really pleased and impressed me a lot. I'll keep in touch and here are some pictures of Mowgli for your website.
Thanks again, Jason Cascio
